The Swaziland University Rugby team returned from Lesotho with a marvellous win over hosts Lesotho last week. The Swazi team travelled down to Lesotho on Friday and had four days in Lesotho to prepare for the big match against their hosts on the following Wednesday. The University side Coach Mario De Sousa had been working with the team for three months prior to the University games and on leaving for Lesotho said he was happy with the squad and very confident they would bring home the trophy.




Webb Ellis Cup2009 will see the first African country outside of South Africa to play host the Webb Ellis Cup. The Cup will be making the short trip to the Kingdom courtesy of the South African Rugby Union and as a part of a fund raising campaign by the Swaziland Rugby Union to raise much needed funds for the Union's Rugby Development Programme.

Mario De Sousa U/30s, with no worries2009 was kicked off in its usual style when the U/30s took on the O/30s on Saturday.  The game, which has become a tradition in Swaziland Rugby was attended by a large crowd of family and well wishes.

SRU President, Michael Collinson was on hand to sign for the kit delivery. We are so grateful to the IRB and John Broadfoot of SOS IRB Kitaid for sending us the kit.

The Swaziland Rugby Union held a Rugby Fun Day last Saturday and hosted a team from Maputo. The day turned out to be a hot one, but this did not dampen the player’s spirits. Rugby was played even in the blistering heat of the midday. Swaziland Rugby Union President, Mike Collinson said he was very happy with the turn out and thanked the players for braving the heat. We had the U/19’s and a few U/16’s players playing and it was good to see all the players enjoying themselves.

A auction of rugby memorobilia will be held tonight in conjuction with "An evening with Naas Botha" to raise funds for the U/18's rugby development programme. Amongst the items for auction are. The Barbarians 2004/2005 jersey, The Welsh Grand Slam jersey, Blue Bulls and Sharks Super 12 jerseys. All the jerseys are signed by the respective team players.

The Swaziland Rugby Union will host a fund raising function on Monday September the 26th for U/18s development within the Kingdom. Guest speaker Nass Botha will spend an evening with rugby lovers and share some great moments from his rugby career..

The Swaziland Rugby Union launched the new first team rugby jerseys this week. The new jerseys will be worn by the 7's squad in the Rugby World Cup 7's qualifying games to be played in Lusaka Zambia
