Women's Rugby

The Swaziland Rugby Union will be holding a Girls Inter Schools 7's Rugby Tournament on the afternoon of Monday April 2nd at the Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini. Naomi du Pont head of Coaching and Development made the announcement today at the Rugby Union offices. We will be inviting six schools to participate in the 7's Rugby Tournament. These schools will be from Luve, Mankayane and Manzini. The interest shown by the schools and players for a Girls 7's Rugby Tournament has been very high.

Today a group of dedicated women rugby players registered on Facebook as Swaziland Women's Rugby. Head Development Coach Naomi du Pont said "A number of girls have approached me and asked if I could assist them in seeting up a Facebook page just for women's rugby within Swaziland.  Following on from the partnership with Scrumqueens and the SKRUM Programme, the Facebook page is happening at the perfect time"

Nompumele Nhleko going through for a tryFollowing the Lilanga Women's 7's League Tournament played today at the Mavuso Sports Ground in Manzini, all the match officials agreed one player deserved the Player of the Tournament and that player was Nompumele Nheko from the Elephants Rugby Club.

The Swaziland Rugby Union announced today the launching of the 'Lilanga Women's 7's League' Rugby Union head development coach Naomi du Pont made the announcement at the Rugby Union offices today. "To start we will have four Rugby Clubs playing in this the first Lilanga 7's League, but the next round of the Lilanga Women's 7's League we will be fielding a further two Rugby Clubs. The four Rugby Clubs playing on Friday are; The Elephant's, The Wolve's, The Vondo's, and The Ranger's" said du Pont.

 

Elephants on the attack against the VondosThe U/16's Girls Inter Club Tag Rugby Tournament was won by the girls from the Elephants Rugby Club. The tournament played at the Mavuso Sports Centre on Friday attracted a good size crowd to watch this the first girls rugby tournament to be held at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

 

The U/16's Girls Inter Club tag Rugby Tournament kicks off at 11am on Friday 12th of November at the Mavuso Sports Centre. Rugby Development Coach Naomi du Pont said "This will be the first time the Mavuso Sports Centre has played host to a womens rugby tournament and the girls are really excited about playing in a 'real' stadium' We are looking forward to some fast running and exciting rugby from the girls" added du Pont.

Mphetseni on the attack during the finalMphetseni primary school beat Malkerns Valley primary in the final of the Vondos Rugby Club Girls U/16's Tag Tournament played at the Princess Pholile Sports Ground home of the Vondo's Rugby Club. Four schools from in around Malkerns participated in the tournament.

 

 

 

Vondo's girls in action at the U/14's trialsThe Vondo's Rugby club in Malkerns held Rugby trials on Saturday for the U14's girls team. Vondo's President Mr. Thabo Mzamo was on hand to welcome the girls to the trials and thanked them for making the effort to attend the training day.
