Elephants going for the try against the Vondo'sSaturday saw the Swaziland Rugby Union's U/19's Club league kick off at the Emcozini Sports ground just outside of the town of Luve.  The three Clubs taking part in this the first league fixtures of 2010 were, The Elephants, Lion's and Vondo's.  SRU President, Michael Collinson was on hand to welcome the three Clubs and wished them all good luck in the league.

All three Clubs were out to dominate their opponents and take the coveted top spot of the newly introduced U/19's Rugby Club league.  The first game was to see the Vondo's from Malkerns take on the Lion's from Mliba.  The Vondo's swept through the Lion's defensive ranks abd caught them napping.  Halftime saw the Vondo's go in 20 - 0 up.  The second half whistle saw the Lion's mount a vigorous counter attack, but poor ball handling and lack of support let the Lion's attack down.  The Vondo's regriuped and began to relentlessly attack the Lion's defence in waves.  Excellent ball handling from the Vondo's saw them run in a further five tries to take the game 45 - 0.  After the refreshment break the vondo's returned to the field buoyed by their emphatic win over the Lion's, to take on the Elephants.  From the first whistle both teams played hard agressive Rugby with neither finding a weakness in the opposition defence as both teams held firm.  It was the Elephants who were to break the stalemate and run in two quick tries with excellent team skills and ball handling.  The Vondo's came back using their bigger forwards and pushing over the try line for their only try of the first half.  In the second half the Elephants kept up their backline attack moving the ball swiftly through the hands to beat a tiring Vondo's team to score two more tries.  The Vondo's kept to their game plan and used their big forwards again crashed through the Elephants defence for a third try.  In the last minute of the game and against the flow of play, a brilliant backline move saw the Vondo's use their speed and agility to score a try and restore their pride and come away with a 20 - 20 draw.  The final game of the day was to see the much improved and confident Elephants up against the Lion's.  The final score line of 75 - 0 tells its own story as the Elephants ran riot through the Lion's defence at will.

At the end of the day, Collinson thanked all three teams for their commitment to playing the game of Rugby and a special recognition must go to the coaches of the Elephants and Vondo's for their high standard of preparation of their teams.  "The standard of Rugby in the U/19's league looks like it is going to be high and the games and the league will be won not only on the playing field but also on the coaching field and as the saying goes.  He who fails to prepare, prepares to fail.  All of the coaches in the league should take a note of how well the Vondo's and Elephants were prepared.  This is the level we all must aim for" said Collinson.
