Swazi 7’s squad “TIKOLOSHI” return from Secunda Tournament

Posted in:

The Swazi 7’s squad saw action last weekend in the Secunda 7’s Tournament held in South Africa. The team travelled out to Secunda on the Friday afternoon as they had an 8.45am kick off on the Saturday morning. The squad has been training for the last four weeks for this pre-season 7’s Tournament, the first of five tournaments Tikolashi will be playing in this year in preparation for the Rugby World Cup 7’s qualifying round to be played in Africa later in 2008 at a venue to be confirmed. Rugby Union President, Michael Collinson said the squad had worked hard in the past few weeks and it was marvellous to see new faces in the squad.

Tikoloshi kicked off with a bad start losing to HP Buffalos (the eventual tournament winners) 37-7. The second game saw the team come out firing on all cylinders and beat Kinross a huge 48-0. Game three they came up against hosts Sasol who they beat 34-7. This put the team in the quarter finals against Middelburg Firsts who they lost to 27-22 in a sudden death “golden try” game.

7’s Coach Michael Nann said he was very happy with the teams performance giving that this was the first time the squad had played together in actual game situation. There are areas we can and will improve and we will be working on these areas over the next few weeks before the Northern 7’s Tournament in February.

Top try scorer for Swaziland was Sean Fitz Patrick with eight tries and second was Malindi Dlamini with seven.
