University Rugby Team return Victorious

Posted in:

The Swaziland University Rugby team returned from Lesotho with a marvellous win over hosts Lesotho last week. The Swazi team travelled down to Lesotho on Friday and had four days in Lesotho to prepare for the big match against their hosts on the following Wednesday. The University side Coach Mario De Sousa had been working with the team for three months prior to the University games and on leaving for Lesotho said he was happy with the squad and very confident they would bring home the trophy.

The game was played in Ladybrand, South Africa on a very hot windy day with a good sized crowd to cheer on both teams. From the kick off both teams set out to play hard Rugby and used their big forwards to try and bash a way through the opposition defense. Good running and handling saw the backlines running the ball and it was all equal throughout the whole eighty minutes. But it was to be the Swazi's day with a 25-4 win at the final whistle. Mario De Sousa thanked the Lesotho side for the game and said the match was anyone's to take right up until the end. He also gave praise to the Swazi side for their commitment at training and during the game. De Sousa also invited the Lesothu to come to Swaziland and play a game later in the year.

Man of the Match went to Mxolisi "Cheeky" Maphanga from the Mbabane Campus.
